The Music Society is one of the oldest and largest at UCL and is open to anyone within the University with an interest in music. It aims to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to get involved in music performance and to encourage the appreciation of music. To meet its aims the Society provides access to practice rooms for all its members as well as facilitating ensembles and running a mailing list for anybody who simply wants to listen to music. The Society runs four ensembles; the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Choir, Chorus and Concert Band. The Orchestra and Chamber Choir are both auditioned at the start of the academic year, while the Chorus and Concert Band are both open to anybody who wants to join. The Concert Band is the newest group, it is in its second year and has got off to a promising start. All of these groups put on regular concerts, for more details please view our calendar by clicking on the link at the top of the page. Next Concert - Wagner Tristan und Isolde, Prelude and Liebestodt - Brahms' German Requiem Friday 30 November, 8.00 pm Why not help with getting sponsorship for the opera, making press releases or much more... There are lots of jobs we need help with, click here for details. For information about joining the society please look at the individual ensemble page and check the FAQ section in in our Forum. If you can see a gap in our provisions please let us know. We have in the past formed various chamber groups for public performances and private functions. As an alternative you may wish to be involved in a non-performing role such as helping to manage University College Opera in the second term, please take a look at "Other ways to get involved" by clicking the link at the top of the page. In March the Society becomes University College Opera, possibly the most ambitious semi-professional university opera company in the country. Its performances of premieres and lost works provide students with the unique opportunity of performing exciting, challenging pieces with professional singers and directors. UCOpera's productions in the Bloomsbury Theatre receive considerable national press coverage, and have become something of a highlight in the major newspapers, specialist publications and even international music press. For more information follow the UCOpera link at the top of the page. |
